What we believe

About The Existence of God

We believe in God. That is, we believe that God exists, that He is our intelligent, omnipotent, loving Creator (Romans 1:20)¹, and that this is a reasonable (i.e., logical) belief. Ultimately, we accept God’s existence by faith (Hebrews 11:6), but not blind faith².

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse (Romans 1:20)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6)

About God

There is only one God. God is one. (Deuteronomy 6:4) There were no gods before Him, there are no gods beside Him, and there will be no gods after Him (Isaiah 43:10-11). God's oneness is a numerical oneness as well as an essential (in essence, or in “substance”) oneness.

Indeed, God revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And that is in fact three roles, manifestations, or titles of the indivisibly one God; but God remains one even when He operates in more than one way in different instances. Let’s look at these titles a little more thoroughly – The one God is:

To sum it up, God is Spirit (John 4:24), there is one Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:4), and this is the Spirit that moved upon the face of the deep in the beginning (Genesis 1:2); moreover, it’s the same Spirit that Jesus was conceived by, and that dwells fully in Jesus (Colossians 2:8-10). There is one God. Jesus is God, and Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD (Deuteronomy 6:4)

Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour
(Isaiah 43:10-11)

Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
(Deuteronomy 32:6)

Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
(Malachi 2:10)

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God  (Luke 1:35)

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters
(Genesis 1:2)

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth
(John 4:24)

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling
(Ephesians 4:4)

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:8-10)

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever
(Hebrews 13:8)

About The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. It is one of the ways that God chose to reveal Himself and to communicate with His creation (us!).

While humans penned the Bible, they did not do so independently of Divine inspiration; that is, the human authors of the Bible were being led by God, the Holy Spirit, as they wrote (2 Timothy 3:16).

Unlike God, humans today (and at the time scripture was being written/copied) are fallible. So, it was possible for errors to occur while copying Biblical texts. However, God promised to preserve the integrity of His Word throughout all generations (Psalm 100:5). Therefore, we can be sure that no critical error has negatively affected the dissemination of God’s Word. In fact, that God has kept His promise was clearly verified by the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which show that the Biblical texts have been copied (and transmitted) for thousands of years with nearly 100% accuracy (and the very small number of textual variations (1) consist of slips of the pen and spelling variations, and (2) in no way hindered the transmission of key doctrinal information)¹.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations  (Psalm 100:5)
